My story begins in February 1961 when the doctor visited the local primary school for the annual health check up. If everything was ok you heard nothing further. About a month later on a Saturday afternoon this car pulled up at home. When I saw the driver I knew it was the doctor from the school with some news. My late father was away this day leaving only my mother and yours truly at home. The doctor explained that a heart murmur was detected at my medical examination a month earler. Victoria Kiely

Victoria Kiely is 21 years old and a final-year History and Politics student at the University of Limerick. She is a past patient of Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin and is an active community fundraiser for the hospital. Victoria was born 9 weeks premature and at the age of 11 was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome, a cardiac condition. Victoria subsequently became a patient of Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children.
